| Just like a Multi City Flight ... Our Careers Are Multiple Stops |
I'm an avid traveler. You know the kind that does not tell many about so called big trips... because technically in their travel life --- its not a lot that makes them get giddy :) Yes, that's me. I'm not sure how I got to that place, but I did. You may see my pics after my travel --- but I'm just mum on traveling. However, there is something about planning one trip with multiple destinations. You know the one's where you start off in let's say an Atlanta, then you stay a few days in Chicago, and then a week in Toronto, and then you go back to Atlanta.
My last multiple destination flight was from Raleigh to Detroit to Salt Lake City, to Oakland, and then back to Raleigh within two weeks. Each trip I landed, got a rental, went to my hotel and nestled into my typical travel journey.
Well, I'm at that point again with my lil ole career. Not my scientific career (that was retired in 2010), but my acting career. I love my progress to date.
My Career Timeline:
2008: Principal character in 1 act play, "Diagnosed" in Durham, NC (paid) + lots of auditions and training
2009: Principal character in play, "Broken" in Durham, NC + lots of auditions and training, I signed with agent
2010: Booked a paid commercial, lots of auditions, lots of writing, watched lots of films
2011: Booked 1 commercial, worked as a English dialect speaking hostess at the GA Renaissance festival, feature film and tv extra work, directed two shorts, signed up with another agency, Sag eligible, networked a lot, Women in Film and TV board, and now working on getting to my next level.
In a nutshell, I have to go from small work, to medium work, and then big work :)
I mention this because when you know you belong on a certain level, it can be a challenge not to look back at where you have been. Yet, if you are serious --- then you are not going back.
I know my next level, and daily, I am working hard to get to that place.
