[BIZ] Learning As I Grow... #dailyaction

Picture of Some Actors I Gathered at My House To
Direct In My First short film," Dear Marcus Luke"
I Cringe When I Think --- "What If I did Not Commit To Action?"

Business wise, one skills that I have used to the 1000th power this year, has been my ability to commit to action. There used to be a time where I used to ask everyone for their opinion, advice, do informational interviews galore. But then it dawned on me that talking is not action. Only action is action. So now I simply go directly to sources --- typically via the net. I get some info on instruction of what I want or so --- and then I take action. I send off an email or make a call to set the situation in motion.

Taking action in all areas of my life has literally saved my life. I am so thankful to God for this reality.

[THOUGHT] California Dreaming...Map Of Calif

Map of California
I'm reading the transcription of CNN's " Black In America" from this year and I just read this quote:

"If you're going to be an actor you go to L.A. If you're going to be in fashion, you go to New York. And if you're going to be in technology, then you come to Silicon Valley".

I'm deeply passionate about film, and I am deeply inspired and interested in technology

California is my state. When I moved there at 25 --- I told myself it was my lucky state b/c it was 8 states over from my birth state. I still feel the same way. I made a goal to make things happen in GA for a year --- and I have. But in the next little over 4 months... I want to aim higher and take back with me some things I'm most proud of.

[SPIRIT] FAB Bible Passage...

My Bible...
I have a fab bible. Its a bible, with great commentary by Joyce Meyers written in it. I don't confess to be holier than thou --- but I deeply believe in God, and I read my bible daily. Its my life reference book. Well, this morning when I was reading I was lead to the following commentary that she wrote:

Careful consideration of Isaiah 43:18,19 seems to indicate that you and I can cooperate with God's plan, for he says, "Will you not give heed to it?"

We can release God's plan for our lives by no longer thinking about the things of the old, believing that God has a good plan for our future. Since what we think about eventually comes out of our mouths, we will never get our mouths straightened out unless we do something about our thoughts.

I believe that if we stop mentally living in the past, we can begin to think in agreement with God. Then once we do that, we can begin to speak in agreement with him. By doing so we can actually prophesy our own future.

If God can make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, He can make a way for you.

Have a FAB Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[UPDATE] Upcoming Projects - End of 2011

Great News!

I have several upcoming projects slated before 2011 is over, and I'd like to share the info! If you are interested in learning more please contact me directly at masha@mashadowell.com.

Business/Consulting:

Digital Atlanta Conference: I planned the Multicultural track of the 2011 Digital Atlanta conference. I had two panels at the conference. One on Cross Cultural Communications In News Media, Film, and TV at Spelman College, and the second one on Multicultural advertisement at the W Hotel Atlanta - Downtown. During the coming months I will reach out to people for additional social media event planning, speaking/moderating, and consulting - partnering opportunities. Link: www.digitalatlanta.org

The Culturatist: We will roll out a new social media campaign for the brand in Dec 2011. Lauren Fulkner, our intern from Clark Atlanta University will lead the campaign. Were excited about this! The goal is to get the supporters of the brand excited, motivated, and open to share their global reviews and experiences with the site. Link: www.culturatist.com

The Global Black Women: This brand has a lot of new haps! First off, we've added on a writer from Latin America to write about afro-latina news. Next up, one of pals in South Africa has agreed to do a series of videos on how she relocated to South Africa, upgraded her career, and got married! We are super excited about this video series. Last but but not least, TGBW will rill out a social media campaign as well. As mentioned above with the Culturatist, the goal is to connect our supporters and provide a higher quality online experience for them all. Link: www.theglobalblackwomen.com

Speak Scientific Productions: The goal with this brand is to produce 'fundraising plays based on the sciences'. Think Grey's anatomy as a play (not a musical). Well, one play has been written, and this month and next contact will be made with local scientific based non profits who would like to utilize this service.

Films:

Webseries- I'm executive producing, directing, and starring (along with a few others) a new webseries slated to premiere in late Jan 2012. This month we have our promo photo shoot which I am super excited about. I don't want to disclose the webseries concept, but I'm sure people will enjoy it. Its based off of my years as a traveling auditor with medical device firm. *SAG signatory project

Short Film - I'm currently casting one last principal role for story I wrote in 2011. I had the hardest time locating a East African male for one of the leads, but I found him! So I'm currently holding castings for the female lead. I am producing and directing this short. *SAG signatory project

Short Film - I've partnered up with a producer in DC to write a short film on domestic violence of three professional women. I'm currently writing the script. We start fundraising for the project in Dec 2011.*SAG signatory project

Acting:

I've booked a student film at the Atlanta Art Institute.
I've booked a United Way commercial.

Global Advocacy:

I had the opportunity to speak this month at the 2011 UN Day celebration at Emory University ( I'll post the video on here as soon as I get it from Emory). It was a joy to connect with the energetic students that are a part of Emory's Model UN program. In addition, yesterday, it was decided that Atlanta will be the host of the 2012 Southeast region meeting of of the United Nations Association. I'm excited that Atlanta was chosen for this GREAT opportunity! Link: http://www.una-atlanta.org/ * I created this web page. Isn't it simple & cute! Contact me for a quote.

[LIFE] A Great Question For Us All

I read a profound question over the weekend.

Give yourself permission to take a long,
truthful look at your life and ask,
“Am I who I want to be?” - Debbie Ford

When I asked myself this question, it made me happy to know that for the most part I am who I want to be. But there were two things that I fell short on. My communication and the amount that I am paid for the talents and gifts that I share.

When I sat back and looked at my big picture, I saw that if you don't communicate directly and clearly, of course people will not understand what I offer and how much I'm worth. So this question came to me at a great time in my life.

I prefer simple communications. Meaning, that when I go to any of my sites, I want to see clear and simple information on what I do. When I speak, I want to be very clear. All in all, I love who I am, yet I aim to be more clear with my communication when it comes to who I am, what I do, and why I do it.

So this week, I'm going through all I do --- to make sure that my communication represents who I am and what I do. I am very sure that by doing this --- I will feel better about who I am. Its good to ask ourselves questions.

[LIFE] Taking A Much Needed Digital Break :)

My Wacky & Boring Halloween Costume
I'm taking a digital break for a bit. I need to mentally digest all I have done and been involved in this year and more. This time last year --- I had never practically lived online and I need a breather. So, unless something is connected to my survival (aka money making) -- I have to get off line for a bit! Have a blessed November!

[LIFE] Happy November...

Poster from a short film from October 2010

November 1st has turned out to be a busy day for me. I had a morning audition for "Army Wives", had to work on some business matters with SAG, and now I am about to rest up before heading to a dinner and program at Emory University in honor of UN Day ( a belated UN Day).

The poster above is from a short film I directed w/ Leanna Adams. Now were on to our next exciting project.

Busy. Busy. Busyyyyy
